Our annual conference brings together musical theatre educators from all over the world to share ideas about curriculum, recruitment, production, and professional placement. The conference also unites the organization with the top professional theatre artists in their respective fields.
Every other year, the MTEA conference convenes in New York City, at NYU Steinhardt School. As the cultural hub of American Musical Theatre, the bi-annual New York convention not only allows members to gather for workshops and organizational discussions, but also to see the most current Broadway and Off-Broadway offerings as well as to connect with alumni working in the profession.
Unlike our regional US and international conferences, where evening group activities are planned and there is a centralized conference hotel to host the gathering, the New York conference leaves the evenings open for members to explore the best of the city and MTEA does not provide a conference hotel.
After New York's chilly annual conference in 2017, members voted largely in favor of an Orlando conference for January 2018. Themed Beyond Broadway, this conference focused on theatre markets beyond Broadway. Click here for conference details.
NEW YORK CITY 2017
The annual conference of the Musical Theater Educators Alliance held at New York University on January 6-8, 2017 was unarguably one of the best conferences in the organization’s eighteen-year history. There were more than 130 attendees, including nearly a hundred teachers and a substantial number of student representatives from schools representing 22 US states as well as China, Singapore, Australia, Denmark, Norway, Germany and Italy. The theme of the conference was “Grow For Me,” and many of the sessions provided valuable ideas for how MTEA members could grow as teachers, as programs and as an organization. OSLO, NORWAY 2016
MTEA embarked on a journey to Oslo, Norway from August 25-28, 2016, hosted by the Baardar Academy. The theme was Body and Breath. Click here for the conference program.
