MTEA Conference

Presentation Guidelines

The Musical Theatre Educators Alliance 2021 Annual Conference will be held virtually.

Musical Theatre Educators’ Alliance International was founded in 1999 as a means for teachers of young professional artists to come together and exchange ideas, methodologies, and solutions to common challenges in the academic settings of universities and conservatories.

This means we are open to a wide variety of ideas and initiatives, and I encourage you all to be creative in deciding how you and your colleagues can best contribute to our conference content. In particular, we are looking for panels, workshops, and presentations that focus on how musical theatre is changing while both honoring and challenging the past.  Due to this year's virtual setting, we are accepting video proposals this year as well.

Preference will be given to submissions involving a collaboration between members. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or ideas you’d like to discuss before formally submitting. I am always impressed by our passionate and knowledgeable constituents and I look forward to planning this conference!

Presentation Formats

The Conference Committee welcomes proposals for the following formats:

Individual Presentation

Due to virtual format this year, presentations will be 30 minutes. We encourage presentations with a strong visual component.

Panel

You may propose an entire session (50 minutes) with a minimum of three speakers to “deep dive “into a specific resource or concept. If accepted, the person who proposed the session becomes the session organizer and is responsible for securing speakers and a chair. Please notethe names of potential speakers and the moderator must be included in the proposal.

Other Formats

Session formats are not limited to the ideas above; session organizers are welcome to suggest other formats. The Committee is particularly open to interactive formats that encourage audience participation.

Submit a Presentation Proposal

Please use the online submission form to submit your presentation proposal. Since this conference will be conducted virtually, participants are also encouraged to submit a video proposal in lieu of answering all of the questions found on form. If selecting this option, applicants should indicate that content will be addressed within the video proposal. The last question on the form will offer the opportunity to upload video proposals.

MULTIPLE SUBMISSIONS: The conference organizers anticipate that some individuals may wish to submit multiple proposals. We expect to have many submissions, so we would kindly ask you to restrict submissions to one per person only.

Timeline:

  • It is expected that the submission portal will be opened during the last week of July.
  • The submission portal will close on October 18th, 2020.
  • During the submission period, all submissions will be reviewed.
  • Presenters will be notified of acceptance by Oct 30th .
