MEMBERSHIP

When you join MTEA you are joining an international organization of artists and scholars who are open to sharing best practices in a supportive community setting.

You will get access for our private Facebook group. Discuss pedagogy, request evaluation of a program for accreditation, conduct a poll regarding curriculum, or get feedback for the purposes of promotion and tenure. We can even help finding a script, scores or libretto—especially those out of print!

You will get a discount on our annual conferences. Since 1999, our annual conferences have been a resource for the exchange of scholarship and advancement in Musical Theatre education and pedagogy. Held both in the US and abroad, our conferences will fill your mind, heart and soul while meeting new colleagues and forming new connections.
 

You will have access to MTEA’s New Works Collaboration Catalog. Developing new works and amplifying new voices and stories directly align with our mission. We have created the New Works Collaboration Catalog exclusively for our members to connect with new musical creators. Members can search through the catalog of over 300 new works catalogued by cast size, musical style, stage of development and much more.
 

Let us help you find a mentor. Join MTEA and you can take part in our mentorship program. Our mentor program director pairs mentors and mentees for a year-long program. This can be incredibly helpful at any stage of one’s career.

MTEA provides a platform for the exchange of ideas about training musical theatre professionals. We share solutions for curricular, production, recruitment and placement questions; broaden visibility; and strengthen credibility for training professionals in the academic and professional arenas.

MTEA makes available services, publications, programs, meetings, and other activities designed to meet the needs of professional musical theatre trainers and educators.

We are the only Musical Theatre-specific organization—focused on the singing, acting, dancing, and business training needed to succeed in today’s market. Other organizations tend to be more academic and theoretical. We tend to lean way more practical. And fun!

We have created many international connections for teachers, students, and university partnerships over the years and essentially broadened the conversation on musical theatre training to a global level. We have connected junior faculty with mentors at other institutions to help them through the processes of creating curriculum and applying for promotion and tenure. We have also helped many programs get accredited. 

• If you are part of a larger institution with multiple colleagues who would benefit from access to MTEA, we recommend you choose the Organizational Membership.
  • This will allow you to create unique profiles for each member of your faculty or team; access discounted conference fees; have your school’s logo up on the MTEA website as a partner institution; and have your school’s full profile listed in our database for prospective students, thus elevating your visibility in the high school community.
• If you are a private studio teacher without an extended team and you just wish to access our library and other resources and attend our conferences at a discounted rate, then Individual Membership is right for you.

• If you are currently a graduate student, with interest in pursuing work in higher education for musical theatre training, then choose our Apprentice Membership.

We hold an annual conference in early January, which alternates between host institutions in New York City, various regions of the United States, and International Member schools.

Recent conferences have been held in: New York City; Orlando, FL; Oslo, Norway; San Diego, CA; Austin, TX; Perth, Australia; St. Louis, MO; Gothenburg, Sweden; Fredericia, Denmark/Hamburg, Germany.
